The Power of Place

I live within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem—a landscape of extraordinary cultural, spiritual and ecological significance. Long before the creation of Yellowstone National Park, these mountains, valleys and waterways were a place of convergence, settlement, transition, and ceremony for many Indigenous nations, including the Apsáalooke (Crow), Shoshone-Bannock, Blackfeet, Nez Perce (Nimiipuu), Salish, Kootenai, and dozens of others whose presence and connections to this place continue today. I acknowledge this with humility, curiosity, and a desire to locate myself and my responsibility within a much larger, longer story that holds important insights on caring for this landscape now and into the future.
